BEKO PBL clubs have discussed concept of United tournament

On Monday 16th of April during the BEKO PBL Board meeting the representatives of the clubs have approved the concept of the United tournament of BEKO PBL and VTB League, which recently received full support from the Euroleague.  Also the scheme and dates for the current season play-offs were approved. 

In the very beginning of the meeting the representatives of the BC Khimki have recieved a round of applause following their weekend's triumph in Eurocup.

Head of the BEKO PBL Board Andrey Vatunin then informed the participants about the agreements, that have been reached during the talks between Euroleague general director Jordi Bertomeu and VTB League president Sergey Ivanov. The clubs' chiefs have discussed and aprroved by a majority vote the concept of the United tournament, which is supposed to start in 2012/2013 season. This concept will be sent soon for review to Government of the Russian Federation, Ministry for Sport and Russian basketball federation.

In addition, the clubs' chiefs have developed a unified position on the amount of Russian clubs in the future tournament. According to the members of the BEKO PBL Board this amount shouldn't be less than 10 teams. They underlined the importance of the participation of all 10 current BEKO PBL clubs in the future tournament. This proposal will be presented during mutual Board of BEKO PBL and VTB League, which will be held during the Final Four of the VTB League.

Also the scheme of the BEKO PBL play-offs this season has been approved with one voice. As previously planned, the play-off will be divided into two parts - for 1-4 places and for 5-8 places.

The teams, which would finish in 1st-4th places in the regular standings, will play best-of-3 semi-final series between 27th of April and 7th of May. The series for 1st and 3rd places will be held in best-of-5 series from 16th to 22nd of May.

First games of each series will be held on court of a team with home-advantage in play-offs. The exact dates of the play-offs games will be announced later.
